PREFACE

Thank to almighty God who has given blessing to the writer for finishing the English paper assignment entitled "HISTORICAL OF A THOUSAND GANDRUNG". The writer also wish to express her deep for those who have guided in completing this paper. This English paper contains some example of history about one culture of Banyuwangi that is “A thousand of gandrung” and give some exampel from the writer’s culture.

Hopefully, this paper can help the readers to expand their culture to keep it and realize that is important for themselves.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

1.2 Purpose
      In this writing the writer has a purpose to make this paper. That is to show to the public about pure culture of Banyuwangi and it is Gandrung sewu or A thousand of gandrung. This paper introduce history of gandrung sewu and the writer also want to explore about her culture in her city.

1.3 Problem Formulation
       Based on the background and the limitation issue, the problems discussed can be              formulated as follows:
1. How does the description of the history of gandrung sewu on the explore of this country?
2.How does the implementation of the writer’s culture on her city?

CHAPTER 2
DISCUSSION

        Gandrung sewu is one festival in Banywangi that provide a thousand of dancers which dancing together in Boom Beach and this is a way for explore Banyuwangi’s dancing. The performace of this event is so amazing because many people follows watch this culture after that it is a big day for Banyuwangi. Most of the people are interesting.

2.1 Historical of Gandrung Sewu
       Paju gandrung Sewu event at the Boom beach, Banyuwangi, East Java, successfully held on Saturday, afternoon. On the shoreline is located on the coast of the Bali Strait, as many as 1,053 pairs of dancers, it means that 2,106 dancers in costumes of red dominance further complement the atmosphere of the sunset on the beach. This colossal performances followed gandrung dancers from age 9 to 71 years. The dancers come from all corners of Banyuwangi active art in art studios (sanggar-sanggar tari) from the village and school.
       Sewu Paju gandrung colossal event is about the history of the emergence of Dance gandrung on Blambangan, Banyuwangi. There are a number of segments displayed, namely "Podo nonton" attraction featuring "jejer gandrung " dance, then "Paju gandrung", and closed with "Seblang subuh". Saturday afternoon, Paju gandrung Sewu began from the installation of a kiling, a kind of windmill installed in the field to repel birds. Made of bamboo as high as 10 meters. Afterwards it wiould be shown a fragment which told the journey of a gandrung dancer.

       This fragment was performed by dozens of professional gandrung and paju. The senior gandrung dancers started by generating fragments of Seblang (a typical ritual of indigenous Using people), then gandrung Marsan (gandrung man). At first, long ago, gandrung was played by a man, then gradually gandrung evolved and more delivered by women. The first was devoted to women dancer gandrung Semi. In this fragment, described the dancer devoted to dance until midnight, where the escort would go ahead and danced while giving “saweran” to the dancers. Sometimes it was interspersed with treats liquor. This practice maked the image of the art became infatuated bad.

       In addition to 2,106 dancers, Paju gandrung Sewu event involves 161 crew, including dozens of gamelan (Wiyogo) and singer. This event was included in the series "Banyuwangi Festival" held during September to December 2014 at a variety of events, among others, Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival, Batik Festival, Banyuwangi Beach Jazz Festival, the Tour de Ijen, and rainbow Festival.

2.2 Culture from Glenmore
       Most people believe Glenmore is a combination of two words namely "Glen" and "More". Glen word to describe the cool temperate regions which has a stretch contour. While More to indicate this area has a contoured stretch of more than surrounding areas. Combined the two words then incorporated into Glenmore. That said, a combination of two vocabularies used by many Dutch people who inhabit this area since the 18th century. However, this allegation is difficult to find justification because there is no strong evidence.

      Glenmore is a plantation areas with cooler weather than in the Ketapang District of the eastern part of the city of Banyuwangi, for example. But, the cool air in Glenmore less than Kalibaru, neighboring districts in the western part. 1.      The Splendour of Magnificent Nature in Glenmore

2.      Glenmore is a plantation areas with cooler weather than in the Ketapang District of the eastern part of the city of Banyuwangi
