Abstract

Retelling Story Method to Improve of Speaking Skill by Watch a Movie

      Speaking is one important skill from four other to learning English well. The skill of speaking is very priority because it is one the problems for English Foreign Language (EFL) students in Indonesia. Actually many methods to develop the students’ skill to speaking but the researcher find an effective method to speaking class. There is a retelling story, in this strategy of teaching and learning which the students have to watch a short and simple movie. A teacher must play it one more time in order to the students really understand the plot of the story. And after that the students have to be able to retell the story in front of class. So that to improve the students’ speaking skill, retelling story becomes an alternative way to be used in teaching and learning process. Afterwards this lesson attempts to classify the effectiveness of retelling story by watch a movie method to develop speaking skill of the students. This lesson employed a pre-experimental design. It can to find out any difference on the speaking before and after they are taught by using retelling story from a movie method. Retelling story from watch a movie method is an effective in improve the students’ speaking skill.
